Where The Trees Grow
What grows beneath, controls your fate.
Synopsis
After surviving a violent father, who used religion as a weapon, and an abusive mother, Hamish and Raymond Mulholland must navigate two very different worlds.
Raymond, the younger brother, with learning difficulties, tries his best to look after the family farm and protect their mysterious supernatural forest from outsiders - his place of refuge and peace. Hamish, on the other hand, lives in the city and has fallen into a life of crime from an early age to support his brother, who he shields from his work.
Hamish's world view is challenged when he meets Laura, an ambitious reporter with a strong faith and heart for justice, who is determined to take down his boss, Freddie Sinclair.
When he decides to leave his life of crime, the one final job that promises to end his criminal career, takes a turn for the worse when the forest on the family farm starts making unprecedented decisions - putting his hopes of freedom at risk.
At its core, the film is a taut thriller and emotional drama that explores themes of familial loyalty, the great mysteries of God, and the tragic consequences of a life defined by secrets and betrayal.
